Hi @zane, please try not to worry, the DWP often ask claimants for their bank statements, it's just to make sure your benefits are correct. Hannah has sent you an email, so please be on the look out for it.0

@zane they can ask for them to help with checking over the claim. As Albus has said, to help make sure it is correct. You also mentioned having a lump sum in another thread? That could come under a need to double check your claim is right too.0

On your other thread here https://forum.scope.org.uk/discussion/115119/what-happens-tell-saveings-and-claim-esa#latest I advised you that the backdated money you received from the benefits they owed you is disregarded for 1 year so it doesn't count towards your savings.
Without the backdated money do you have savings/capital of more than £6,000?1 -

I advised you a few times that the lump sums you receive for backdated benefits is disregarded from all your savings for 1 year from the date you receive it. For this reason I really don't understand why you rang them.
Without the money they owe you if you don't have savings of more than £6,000 then you've done nothing wrong and no, you're not in any trouble.0 -

Yes I know they are asking for bank statements because you rang them. You didn't answer my question I asked earlier in the thread.
Are your savings less than £6,000 before you had/have the lump sum from DWP?0 -

Which clearly means at the moment you have less than £6,000.
The money you are expecting next week isn't counted towards those savings for 1 year. It means it's disregarded so doesn't count.
You came here yesterday and asked the question about your savings. I advised you that you don't need to do anything because it's disregarded. You still decided to ring ESA and tell them about your savings, when you didn't need to. I also posted a link to prove the advice I gave was correct.
All this could have been avoided...
One other thing to also add. the cost of living payments you received are disregarded for an indefinite period so those are also not counted towards your savings.0
