I finally received my mobility car 16 months after ordering but after 7 weeks it was recalled by Vauxhall. I took my brand new car back to the garage ,this was 9 months ago! I struggled to get a courtesy  car that fit my needs but now I am getting phone calls from the hire company wanting stupid things, like where is the car going. What am I using it for,how many miles are we driving  where is it being parked when we got out.How much of he craziness should I be expected to put up with. How long should I be expected to wait for my disability car to be safe /  Road worthy again or should I ask to break my contract or be offered a new vehicle  as there is obviously a major problem with the car I was given  9 months & counting just proves this. Any help/advice would be useful as my husband just says to vasicall put up with it.

    9 months is unacceptable

I know with a private purchase you are allowed to formally reject a car under certain circumstances - this would be one I think - I don't know if thats a possibility with Motability contract but may be worth exploring?

If a vehicle under the Motability Scheme is recalled by Vauxhall due to safety concerns or defects, it is essential to address the issue promptly. Waiting nine months for a resolution is excessive, and the Motability Scheme has a legal obligation to address this.

Responsibility for the vehicle's provision and the resolution of issues lies with the garage or dealership. However, the lease agreement is directly between the Motability Scheme and you placing the onus on the Scheme to resolve any outstanding issues with the vehicle. I recommend contacting the Motability Scheme, as they are the entity your lease agreement is with not the garage or dealership.

The problem with recalls is that they affect thousands of cars at the same time.  That means parts can't be made quickly enough to cover the extra demand.  And sometimes new parts have to be designed, which all takes time.  But the manufacturer has a duty of care not to let you drive a potentially dangerous car in the meantime.

9 months does seem a long time but isn't the longest I've heard for recall work.

Do you know exactly what the fault is, or the repair?  Have you contacted Vauxhall recently to ask for an update?

Legally, I don't think you can reject the car as it's been recalled, only if there were unique faults to that car that the garage failed to repair.
