Do you think charities advertising is overkill?

    I've just been sorting out stuff for the recycling bin. Amongst the paperwork I was getting rid of was a letter for one particular charity. Opened it out of curiosity. Along with the begging letter were some gift tags. A couple of years ago my neighbour received some Christmas cards from a different charity. I can't help wondering how much all this costs to produce, print and post. It's all unsolicited. Do the ads on tv get broadcast free or do they have to pay?

    As I said a day or so ago, I support a dog charity, it's only a small one. I approached them before I decided to donate, not the other way round

    I actually do care about them! Sadly, I can't afford to give money to lots of charities, there is one I have chosen. That's why I don't like them on so much, they give those who do care a guilt trip. Many news items have come up over the years, where pensioners have signed up to so many, they have no money to live themselves, but they felt sorry & lost track, sad.

    I feel sorry for those less fortunate than us, but I also feel the government in the country where the money is being sent to, needs to stop being corrupt!! A high percentage of funds don't reach the intended people.

    I do support the adverts wanting aid when there has been a disaster. Sending blankets, toys etc etc. I remember getting a shoe box and putting toys in it for an appeal. I don't know if it was this country or not. I think it was Shelter Box.

    We can all do something to help someone else. It doesn't have to cost money. We can all befriend someone who is lonely can't we.

    I've always put money into charity boxes and tins but refuse to take out monthly charity donations.

    The people outside shops now only seem to be interested in monthly payments.

    It's a difficult question. The total cost of transporting a donated item may be higher if government agencies purchased it close to the disaster site.
