So glad I've found this community. I'm hoping it might help!
I've suffered from depression and anxiety for at least 20 years. At the moment, I'm struggling with everyday life. I am self employed as I can't work the normal 9 to 5 in a normal job. Lately (since last October), I've struggled more. I've got to the stage now where I can't go to work. I find it a struggle to face customers and even friends. I'm not sure what to do as I can no longer afford my bill's etc. but am looking at universal credit etc. Hopefully I might find so.e answers here!

Success!  Spoke to a gp today. Going to increase my medication for depression, and going to give me some new tablets for my anxiety. So, hopefully it's a start. I've been in contact with citizens advice, and they've put me onto some benefits applications.

And it's a big warm welcome from me too @SteveHann :)
Ah I'm glad you have a GP that understands, that can be really helpful when you're struggling. Fingers crossed the meds tweaking really helps you and the applications are successful.  Please feel free to ask if you need help with them. :)

I haven't been able to actually see a gp, but at least managed to speak to someone over the phone. It will just be a case of waiting for the medication to work. I have a very supportive family, and some great friends to help me. The main problem at the moment is the financial worries, but, as my wife tells me, we're not as bad off as some people. I just feel very strange by not going to work every day!

Please don't be too hard on yourself. Take a time out to look after yourself. Don’t allow anyone to make you feel bad if you are not ready to work. Do whatever makes you happy.  [CONTENT REMOVED - Medical advice]. Explore ways to resolve underlying problems.  Best of luck.
