LCWRA
however my first sick note was round about 7th or a few days after in January 2024 and I got awarded LCWRA on the 8th of April I’ve spoken to the UC people on the phone and others who have dealt with these claims and they said it gets backdated but in my journal it says it will not get backdated so I’m just confused does it really get backdated
also when my first payment will be of LCWRA because they said it takes 3 months waiting period from when you sent in the first sick note at the start/middle January so I thought it would be in April's payment I’ve looked at my statements and it’s just the normal UC so sorry it’s a lot but I’m just confused different people have said different things
also I’ve seen that is it true so you get £416 plus ur UC on top so 2 different payments happen and so like is my first payment would be may on the same day as uc or is it different thank you whoever will read this lol 🥲

The waiting period is 3 full assessment periods from when you first provided your fit note. It's then paid from the 4th month after with first payment being the end of that month. This assumes there were no gaps in your fit notes until a decision was made on your claim.
As you provided your first fit note in the middle of an assessment period then that doesn't count. It starts from the following AP.
You said you provided it around the 7th Jan or a few days later but that doesn't help. I need to know the exact date you provided that first fit note. You can look back on your journal and it will tell you.
Based on the information you gave your first payment will be either May or June.0 -
Hello yes so I’ve looked on my journal and I got it wrong the exact date my first fit note was the 2nd of January so that should mean it will be definitely get payed in may thank you so much for replying I apprentice it so when I get it in may it’s an extra payment on top of my UC and does it get backdated with the 3 months or is that just a waiting period only thank you0

It’s not the date of the fit note. It the date you actually provided/reported it that counts. Many people get confused by that.Yes it’s extra money but it’s not the paid at all during the waiting period.
If you or a partner were receiving earnings and you didn’t previously have the work allowance then you will be owed some money from that.0 -
Okay thank you and that’s when I first reported it that date as well it says fit note reported thank you and okay I understand0

Hello again
I asked for you advise a couple of days ago in regards to winning my appeal after my 365 days esa contribution benifit was coming to an end, and I had not heard from the dwp , I gave them a call today to ask what happens next , to my dissapointment they told me my payments have completely stopped now as I was put in the wrag not the support group ! Is this correct ! On my tribunal notice it states I have limited capability and wrag iam so confused and feeling very down at the moment , now It sounds like my payments are not continuing , I have asked for a call back from a higher member of staff which can take 3-4 days clearly i have limited capibility for work so is this not the support group and wouldn't I still qualify with having wrag also , sorry but I'm so frustrated hope you can shine some light on this for me .
Thankyou .

Limited Capability for Work (LCW) is same as WRAG. There's no extra money for this for claims that started after April 2017. Limited capability for work related Activity is same as Support Group. You only receive extra money if the decision was LCWRA/Support Group.
For New style ESA it is only paid for 1 year unless placed into the Support Group/LCWRA. If the decision was LCW/WRAG then payments will stop after 1 year but NI credits will continue because you were found to have LCW.

Thankyou poppy for explaining that to me as I still have lcw/wrag what benifit can I claim now as this is concerning as I have needs for my disability and none of this had been explained properly dwp just said basically my payments would stop after 365 days.
Thankyou.

Can I please just check that you're also claiming Universal Credit as well as ESA? If you are then your UC will continue, it doesn't stop like ESA does.
As your ESA is deducted in full from your UC the deduction will also stop once ESA stops.
The only other benefit possible to claim now is a disability benefit, which would be PIP, unless you're living in Scotland and then it will be ADP. (unless you already claim it)
Whether there's any entitlement to PIP will depend on how your conditions affect you.

Good morning poppy no I'm not on uc I have had to reduce my hours in work coz of my disability I work 15 hrs a week , yes I do receive the pip allowance.
Thankyou

Ah ok, thank you. As you commented on a thread in the UC section I thought you were claiming UC as well as ESA.
UC is a means tested benefit so if you live with a partner you'll need to claim as a couple and your joint circumstances will be taken into consideration.
As you were placed into the WRAG then this would be LCW for UC, although it doesn't entitle you to extra money you will have the work allowance for UC so there maybe some entitlement but it will depend on circumstances. If you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming.
Use a benefits calculator to check entitlement. When doing so there will be a question about LCW/LCWRA make sure you tick the LCW and then it will include the work allowance in the calculation.
