My son's PIP is less than his DLA

Hi my son recently turned 16 and he has been receiving the highest living and mobility DLA. After applying for PIP I first got a letter saying he would going to get an amount slighter more than he was getting through DLA. Then two weeks ago I got another letter saying that he has been awarded enhanced living and mobility and the amount quoted was less than he was getting through DLA. Yesterday that lower figure appeared in the bank account. I'm so confused! Has anyone else had this?

That’s impossible because the rates for DLA are exactly the same as they are for PIP. The only difference is PIP only has 2 daily living parts but DLA has 3.
Mid/high rate care DLA is the same amount as PIP standard and Enhanced daily living. Both mobility parts are the same too.
How much was he receiving every 4 weeks when he was claiming DLA?When was the decision made on the PIP? I wouldn’t expect PIP payments to start until about 7 weeks after the decision is made. When transferring from DLA you will receive one final payment of that before PIP starts.0 -
Hi was getting £408 a month on DLA and we've just received £320.79 PIP0

We got an extra random £200 and something DLA mid way through last month0

£320.79 every 4 weeks is not Enhanced for both parts. It seems like you're confused by what award he had for DLA and what award he has for PIP.
When he was claiming DLA if his award was high rate for both then this would have been £691 every 4 weeks. (please note that figure was before the April increase) that £408 doesn't make any sense because it doesn't point to anything.
For PIP before the April increase if his award is Enhanced for both parts then this would have been £691 every 4 weeks. This will increase to £737.20 4 weekly due to April increase.
Please check the PIP decision letter to see exactly what he's been awarded.0 -
I've just realised that we have a motability car so we never received that portion of the DLA - it went straight to motability. I will query with DWP the PIP award. Thanks for responding0

That now makes sense. Was the PIP payment the first payment? If it was then that also makes sense because the first payment is usually for 3 weeks money, not 4 weeks. His next payment will be for 4 weeks.
Then you'll have the mobility part which is paid to Motability, assuming you still have the vehicle.0 -
Yes it was the first payment. Ah OK. So maybe wait a month to see what happens? Is there a deadline for querying awards? I'm so reluctant to phone because it's such a nightmare trying to get through0

When you received the decision letter it should have given details of his first payment and the dates it's paid for. It will also be a mixture of old and new rates because the increase didn't start until 8th April. Going forward he should receive £434.20 every 4 weeks.0
