Is there anything you love doing but aren't very good at?

I LOVE driving but I honestly don't think I'm very good at it

I was driving along one of my favourite twisty roads the other day, about 60mph (I promise it was no higher officer) in 3rd gear, the car making a nice sound…when a white long wheelbase Transit van came up behind me at a fair speed and even kept up reasonably well on the corners…if anything I felt that I was slowing him down

Assuming it wasn't some kind of super modified van with a massive engine in it, I presume the driver was a much better one than me

The point of this question, Ive heard it said that enjoying something and being good at it often go hand-in-hand, but, is there anything you love doing but aren't actually very good at it??

    @Biblioklept

    I'm about to log off for a bit but wanted to quickly post 1 quote I really liked, in response to avoiding potentially fun stuff because you aren't good at it…

    It's not about being the best, it's about doing your best 😃

    Singing, gaming, painting, there's loads of things I'm rubbish at, but I have fun doing it. 😁

    One quote that always sticks with me is;

    "Sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something"
    Jake the dog - Adventure time

    Most arts and crafts. Singing. Dancing. Most sports.

    Something that changed my perspective a bit was reading something that said not everything you do has to be monetisable. I think a lot of the time we're told that the ultimate aim of creating or doing things should be that they have some external value. But, really, it's okay to just create or do things because you enjoy them. You don't even have to show anyone else. And, if you do, who cares if it's something you could make money off of or not!

    I haven't been able to find the original quote I saw, but this blog post I stumbled upon while looking is along similar lines 🙂

    So I'll continue singing in the shower, dancing in the kitchen, and whipping up some less-than-impressive drawings thank you very much!

    I'm back now so can respond properly 😀

    Singing is a great one!! I honestly don't think I've EVER sang out loud since I was at nursery school!!!!!!! I can categorically say I haven't ever sung with my "broken" adult voice!!!! I'd be scared of embarrassing even myself 🙄 I do sing a lot in my head though, like reading in my head but singing instead…I don't know if that's weird

    It's funny what you say about the driving, the van driver actually seemed a really good driver with proper vehicle control and stuff, he wasn't tailgating me or anything etc.!! People associate going over the speed limit with bad driving which can be true but not always - I genuinely felt safer and calmer doing 140mph in a Lotus with a professional race driver (legally, on a track), than I feel at 60mph on the motorway with some people 😂

    I always say…it's easy to drive fast, anyone can do it, but driving fast safely is a real skill…normal people like me need to respect our own limitations, because when you get cocky, that's when you crash 😅

    Gaming is a great one @Albus_Scope I do quite enjoy gaming but I really do think I am not too good at it!! I used to love Call of Duty and my kill-death ratio was less than 1 which means I was killed more times than I killed someone. And I loved the zombies as well but never got past like round 40 and my friends used to get to round 100+ (well they say so anyway, never saw proof)

    I'm forever singing in my head, it's when I do it out loud that the problems start! 🤐

    I'm very good at having a terrible kills to deaths ratio in most FPS games. 😁

    Oh I am TERRIBLE at gaming. So terrible that people enjoy watching me for comedy value. Especially shooting games or anything you have to be precise about. But I do like giving it a go anyway if the opportunity pops up.

    And I'd say dancing too. If I had to pick a form of exercise to do, dance would be number one for me, but I don't have a firm grip of left and right or where my body is in space, so I won't be winning any awards 😄

    I can see a team dance off happening in the future then @Rosie_Scope 😄

    I love singing aloud, never the correct words. As for my ability to sing, my school choir master once commented I had a very unique voice, I manage to hit all the notes between the keys :) So not good at singing but an expert at hitting the gaps :D On the bright side I get to wind my family up every day.

    I am having a laugh about singing! My late partner was a professional singer and he used to tell me I could hit all of the notes and all of the keys but not in the right order! My mum and sister both told me I could sing when I was a kid; but I cannot remember.

    As for driving, I have driven the entire Route 66. You know the song "it winds from Chicago to L.A". I have also driven The Eagles best of album and that included driving through Monument Valley at dawn. I drove 1,400 miles that day and ended up in the middle of nowhere in Texas! I was tired and the traffic cops got hold of me. But I was ok and got off with it. I don't recall what I was doing wrong, but probably speeding.

    I don't like driving in London and I am glad I no longer have to do it.

    I love art, crafts, drawing and photography. Don’t think I’m very good at any of them.
