    Thank you.

I've just typed in all health conditions and it says 'do you have a fit note'?

I haven't got one yet as i am not fully applying for UC until the 12th, so can i tick no to having one and then get one? or do i leave this section until i'm ready to fully apply?

Leave that section. Then when you do submit the claim you will have 7 days to provide the fit note.

thank you - ok i will leave it.

i need to complete that section before i submit, so on the 12th when i submit, do i click yes or no to having a fit note? (as i wont have one yet, but will contact doctors once submitted to get one)?

Click yes and then provide it once you have it. It's only the 1st today so can you get a fit note prior to submitting your claim, rather than wait until you've submitted it? It doesn't matter what date is on the fit note, it's when it's provided that counts.

Thank you, i've no idea how long the doctor will put on it so didn't want to get one too early.

I am glad i followed what you said and did it as it took a few days for them to respond. they have put 4/8 for one month

I need to apply by the 12th. i just need to finish off the finance section. Is there anything else i need to know/do before clicking submit? do i wait until the 12th? what happens once i've submitted, how long do they take to contact me?

sorry for all the questions, as you can probably tell i'm a bit anxious about the whole thing

Thank you again for your advice

Once you submit the claim then your claim will have started and that will be day one of your monthly assessment period. If you claim on 12th then your APs will be 12th to 11th and payment date will be 18th of every month. So first payment would be 18th September. Unless payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday and then payment will be the Friday before that.

You will both receive an appointment date and time to attend your local Job centre. If your partner can't attend then they can ask for a reasonable adjustment for a telephone appointment.

If he's not receiving treatment or recently had treatment then answer no to that question. It's not vital that this information is given at this stage anyway because once the UC50 form is received you would need to include everything in there.

You do need to make sure there's no gaps in the fit notes because if found to have LCWRA then that can affect when the extra money is paid from.

It's entirely up to you when you claim but you may want to wait until after your next IS payment. IS will of course continue for 2 weeks once you submit the UC claim.

To become his appointee once you both have access to a journal you will need to put a message on his to ask to become his appointee and then a work coach will arrange that for you.

    Thank you very much.

So the appointment date for the job centre, I will be asking for a telephone appointment, do i ask this in the journal after they have made the appointment? also what is the appointment for please, what sorts of things are asked?

thank you again for your advice.

If they ask for a face to face appointment (highly likely) then yes you can ask through your journal.

The appointment will likely be to confirm your identities and to agree to your claimant commitments. I realise you're a carer but at the start of your claim you will need to wait for UC to verify your husbands PIP award. Once your claim is updated you will be asked to agree to different commitments (done through your journal) which will be to agree to report all changes.

Once the appointee is in place for your husband he shouldn't have any commitments. Just an added thought are you his appointee for PIP? If you are then the appointee should already be put in place for UC as it's now automatically done.

I'm not sure whether i am or not for PIP, i fill out all his paperwork and am there for any appointments etc but officially an appointee i don't know.

Is it a simple process for them to make me an appointee on UC if not done automatically?

also, once i submit my claim, how long roughly do they take to contact you regarding appointments etc please?

If you were his appointee for PIP then you would have had a home visit at some point in the past from a DWP representative to sort the paper work and for you to sign the forms. You would have then received a letter in the post confirming you are his appointee. From there you would have been responsible for his whole claim, including any letters being sent out in your name and not his. If you were his official appointee then you would know.

To be his appointee for UC then you will need to put a message on his journal once you have access to it and ask to become his appointee. You should only be his appointee if he's mentally or physically incapable of managing his own claim. Once you put the message on the journal a work coach will arrange that and a home visit maybe needed.

It may take a few days to be sent an appointment once you submit your UC claim.

Thank you, all applied for, identity appointment booked (i have asked for a reasonable adjustment - to upload the documents instead of attend in person)

with regards to becoming an appointee, could you tell me more about this, is it suitable for me to become his? whats involved with them coming to your home etc? (if i didn't deal with all his appointments, paperwork, etc he wouldn't. no way would he have even applied for UC).

I can't tell you if you should become his appointee, that will be up to you both to decide. The home visit will just be to ask your partner if he agrees and for you to sign some forms.

Hello @summersunflower, do you mind me asking whether they accepted the adjusment of allowing you to upload ID instead of attending the appointment?

    They have said

    Hi,

they have said they are unable to accept documents by upload for initial identity verification, so they will refer our case to their visiting team to come out and verity our identities.

    Is this normal?

Is there no other way i can verify our identities without my husband having to go somewhere or have someone come to us? It would make him extremely uncomfortable again having someone come to the house.

Can i just put a message on my journal asking for a phone appointment instead?

    Confirm your identity

You can do this from your 'to do' list if you have a UK passport or driving licence.

Do not worry if you cannot do this. You can confirm your identity over the phone or at a jobcentre appointment.

Ive just had a quick look online and it says it can be done via phone?

"If you want to claim Universal Credit you must verify your identity. This helps to link the right person to the right claim and reduce identity fraud.

You can verify your identity by one or more of the following:

    • online identity verification
    • face-to-face appointments
    • documentary evidence
    • biographical interviews "

Can i request one of these instead?

Or can i verify my husbands ID at the job centre?
