Could Labour delay the transition of income related ESA claimants to UC? I’d like them to 👍👍
It was this Conservative government that announced that they brought forward the transition to UC for ESA and ESA with Housing Benefit claimants by 3 whole years. However, I’m just wondering now with a strong possibility that Labour win the general election, would they perhaps delay the transaction again? I hope Labour would decide to do that and income related ESA & income related ESA/HB claimants don’t start to receive migration notice letters from September of this year. If they could change it to be back to 2028/29 I’d really like that.

I won’t have to go through another work capability assessment and I’ll be placed Limited Capability for Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) group straight away. I’ll be chuffed with that. I’ll be receiving more money on UC as opposed to income related ESA. I’ll be chuffed with that as well. BUT, I can’t stand the thought of monthly payments. It really, really riles me, I can easily get into a rant over the whole monthly structure.

I’ll be asking for an APA, I know I will be asking for one. Our household will make the case as convincing as possible that an APA is better for me.
I don’t have the required budgeting skills to do monthly. I don’t deal with money to the required standard to live off a monthly frequency. The fortnightly structure on ESA suits me to a tee, it works for me. If not all claimants have effective budgeting skills, they can’t all be expected to just accept monthly payments. We can’t be pushed to accept it.

I’m going to be one of those income related ESA claimants that will be better off on UC. I just wish they hadn’t designed UC to be a monthly payment, like they expect all claimants to be responsible with their money on a monthly basis. Them saying be responsible with your money is one thing, but doing it is another. If a claimant isn’t good with money, they just aren’t. If a claimant doesn’t have the skills to do to live off a monthly frequency, they just don’t.
If Labour were to win the GE, which I think they will, fingers crossed 🤞 they delay the transition date of the ESA and ESA/HB claimants again. Get it changed back to 2028/29 ✔️☑️✅. I’d rather not be notified by the end of next year, December 2025. I’m not in favour of moving to UC that fast, regardless that I’d be better off. Monthly payments — it’s a big no from me. ❌❌❌❌❌

I’d be entitled to an APA. I don’t think I’d be rejected because in the APA guidance, people with autism come under Tier 1 factors. People who come under Tier 1 factors are people who highly likely need an APA.

Anyway, if Labour do win the GC, do users think they could delay the transition again? That’s the question I want answering, I’d like users’ thoughts what they think Labour would decide to do.

Hi Chris, no is the answer I'm sorry to say.
This has already begun and won't stop. 2024/25 was the original target date, put on hold with a 2028/29 timetable now returned to to 2024/2025.
Since you know you can request an APA for more frequent payments and you expect/hope to receive maximum support under UC, all you can do is wait. No migration of benefits is a walk in the park so my advice is that you research as much as you can about migration to UC, here on Scope and elsewhere.
UC has been in operation since 2013 so that's 11 years! A single monthly payment is at the core of this programme.

I don't think anyone can predict what may or may not happen. @ChrisSCOPEhtfc94 you've already made a couple of threads about the move to UC and monthly payments so I don't understand why you're starting another one.
You know you would be better off by claiming UC and you know you can request an APA so what's stopping you from moving across? Surely being £120/month better off is a no brainer during these hard times.

Trust me, I have been doing the research, especially about APAs. It’s the DWP’s desire, thinking that they can push everyone to monthly payments, thinking that every single claimant has the abilities to live off a single monthly lump sum payment, that sickens me to the core. I’ve been on ESA and have been in the support group for many, many years. Fortnightly payments suits me better. We don’t all have the abilities to do as they say, just to please them.
They really shouldn’t have designed UC this way but you could never trust a Tory anyway 🤣🤣👍👍. They designed it.
If they do start sending out the letters ✉️📮 from September, I hope I won’t be one of those that gets one early on. The longer, the merrier 🤣.

that’s my severe autism I’m afraid to say Poppy. I really do overthink stuff. While getting more money on it is a good thing my mind thinks about the bad things too much.

I managed to delete my post 🙄
All political parties know how the benefits system works. Laws aren't passed without cross-party support.

Whats APA pls

Alternative Payment Arrangement. It’s when UC can be paid twice a month and sometimes 4 times a month. It means that your monthly payment would be split into equal payments instead of once a month.

Talking about migration some people convinced still 2028 so many different stories all my wishing won't make it change

I'm going to write to my MP and ask that they look into delaying it as a matter of urgency for two reasons, firstly that they still have not addressed their lack of proven systems to protect the vulnerable - the DWP have not yet responded to the latest coroner PFD report regarding the lack of safeguarding & how it led to a death they held their inquest for. Also, they say they want to tackle poverty and not make the poorest pay for the sins of the rich, well how does the erosion of TP for hundreds and thousands of disability premiums chime with that? I sincerely hope that someone will put a halt to the compulsory migration, obviously those who will be better off can still migrate voluntarily if they wish, they can do that anyway.
