Hi, my name is HappyDays62! Has anyone else with Osteoarthritis applied for PIP?

I recently made a claim for PIP as I have osteoarthritis (OA) in my neck, back, knees and hands. This is causing me a great deal of pain and making movement really difficult to the point where my husband has taken over most of the household chores and I can no longer go outside the house. I just wondered whether anyone else has submitted a claim for OA and how likely it is that I'll be successful.

Thanks in advance!

PIP isn't awarded based on any diagnosis and because we are all affected differently it would be impossible to compare someone else to yourself. Whether there's any entitlement will depend on how your conditions affect you. As I don't know how your conditions affect you it will be impossible to tell you whether there's any entitlement.

Household chores are unfortunately not considered in any of the PIP descriptors. What they do consider are activities such as washing/bathing, dressing/undressing, toilet needs, communicating verbally etc etc. You can see the descriptors here. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/Global/Migrated_Documents/adviceguide/pip-9-table-of-activities-descriptors-and-points.pdf

Have you filled out and returned the PIP2 form yet? (how your disability affects you)

Hi @HappyDays62, welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear your OA is so painful at the moment. As Poppy mentioned, PIP is all about how your condition affects you in your day to day life using the descriptors they give you on the form, so it's difficult to say whether a claim will be successful or not based on your diagnosis.

Some of our members might be able to share their experiences about how their PIP process went, but it's difficult to compare one person's claim with another even if they have the same condition. I'm sure some of them would be happy to share their thoughts though, so I'll pop your post over into our PIP section where they can find it more easily. 😊

If you have any questions about the process please do ask, our members are very helpful!

Hi poppy123456, yes I have completed the form and focussed solely on how it affects my daily life. Thanks for asking!
