Securing my daughter’s future
Hi, I’m the parent of a severely disabled young adult who needs full support. My husband and I have cared for her with no additional support for the last 30 years. We would like to know what options there are out there to secure her future as obviously we’re not going to live forever! We have just spent the last year jumping through all the hoops to access supported living for her. She completed a transition period, but was desperately unhappy, not sleeping and crying continuously. Unfortunately the placement has broken down. What else is out there? Any suggestions/information gratefully received!

Hi,
I’m not sure I’ve an answer to your question, but just to say there may be other supported living places available to your daughter. When I think back to care home for my mum, I visited many and she stayed in a few, some were much nicer and staff differed. Perhaps your daughter might be happier with other staff.
Wishing you and you daughter all the best. It’s tough isn’t it!

Thank you for your kind words! I think that’s what we’ll have to do. Our daughter has stayed in other respite centres before and never reacted in such a way. It’s especially difficult when she hasn’t the capacity to tell you what is wrong. We’ll just have to keep looking, but you’re right, it is very tough!

Hi @Juli1t. Just wanted to see how you got on with your daughter? It sounds like a very stressful situation and I hope that it's been resolved.
