Infrastructure
Hi all, I'm trying to find a way that is free to push for infrastructure/public transportation to be addressed nationally but more so in rural areas (for me it's Wales). In Wales it is ridiculous; if you can't drive due to disability (which I can't) you are completely removed, obscured and house bound from any form of life. In Wales for a start, there are not enough busses and they have to travel around all the country lanes (which is fine) but a journey that takes 20 mins in a car is an hour and a half on a bus…. let's throw in the fact some of us are in pain, very bad pain, especially on busses but we can do it, because we are warriors….. however, nope, you still can't go anywhere because the busses stop running early in the evening so you can't get home. Trains, less painful, but half the time the tracks have been closed down and you can't get anywhere. I think it is very important that this issue is addressed. I live alone with a 12.5 year old and this affects her too……… we want to go out, we want to go further than the small town we live in…… and I will crawl if I have too, I would bite pavements with my teeth……. but it isn't going to get us to a different town and back. The gaps in between transportation are a joke…………. sooooooo what do you do when you are stuck sitting, kneeling, even lying down sometimes for an hour and a half/2 hours waiting for anything resembling transportation to get home……. hey that's if you can even find out when, where and what anything is.
Things affect us all differently; my eldest daughter lives in, Manchester, BIG city…… busses every few mins till the early hours, trains, trams, all there…… desperation: a Taxi can arrive in 2 moments………….. Once here when my eldest daughter was home, I had managed to get to a supermarket……. we had to sit for an hour and a half to get a Taxi home with our shopping. We just bought some beers, I took medication and we smoked our rollies (hand rolling tobacco) on a bench outside Tesco……. waiting for a Taxi to take us, literally 10 mins up the road. I got there on my crutches full of my medication but no way could I get home with bags of shopping……… In the end we had a laugh, we both have dark humour and at least it was sunny….. :). But people don't realise things…… I will fight, I am a fighter, I fight for independence. I just want to be able to attend an event, go anywhere and get home……….

Hi @Bar. Sorry no one was able to answer your question. Transportation in villages leaves much to be desired and it's so unfair for those who live there. Have you tried contacting your local MP?

Hi @bar public transport can be a nightmare, I agree it takes longer on a bus and waiting for one sometimes, which is no fun if your pain. Maybe write a letter to your local council.

We need a national service for organizing taxi rides for disabled people.

Hi @Bar There's still free webspace available and it's very user-friendly, so you could set up a site then bring it to the attention of organizations like don't know why this occurs to me Scope and ask them to spread the word, ask your local papers for a mention and so on, contact local councils, local bus companies, make it an issue.
