If someone looked round your house...

…who would they imagine lived there??

I went in my brother's flat today, something I do maybe once every 9 months. It was really nice and tidy and organised but something I noted was all the nice ornaments and things and attention to detail. I said that it didn't look like the flat of a bloke living on his own, which I meant in the nicest possible way!

It made me think, if someone looked at where I live they definitely WOULDN'T think I had OCD!!!! I think they would assume it was someone a bit older as well because of the old whiskies and cognacs and the old fashioned accessories but then again maybe not because of all of the cartoon bumble bees littered around 🤔

What would someone say about where you live??? 😃

I dread to think lol. I have a organise box for everything. even the sponge and cloth to wash up and clean with has it's own little box attached to the sink. I dunno what anyone would think

I went down the "minimalism" route myself a few years ago but I found I went over the top, getting rid of stuff I actually needed 😂

I think this Einstein quote is quite apt, "everything in life should be as simple as possible, but no simpler"

I do think minimalism is good though, if you can get the right level of it

People would think mines looks nice and tidy, I actually have one off they little holders attached round my tap for my cloth and sponge. Everywhere has its place EXCEPT inside my cupboard I have loads off clothes still in bags that I won’t wear I really must make a Vintage account and get rid off them lol

@Lou67 I can relate to that, I have a drawer out of the way and it's really messy, it's like I move any mess from other places and hide it in the drawer 😛

I don't know if it's still a good site to use but I found the good old eBay was good for selling stuff as well 😃

    @66Mustang
I think everyone has a drawer or cupboard like that 😂
I’ve never used any off the sites my daughter has sold loads on both off them.
My friend sd she’ll help me clear the cupboard one day ( that day will have to be soon 😀) and help set up an account for me.

    ❤️

    @Lou67

I got into eBay like 10 years ago and never realised so much stuff that I didn't use was worth money

I joked that in like 6 months I'd probably have an empty room with just a pile of money in the middle 🙄 😆

Someone looked round my flat for a rental inspection a few years ago. They immediately asked if I had OCD. Damn cheek! 😆

They'd ask if I just moved in.
I don't do ornaments or photos. I do however have plants.
There's more dog toys than cushions.
Oh, and I do have a very elaborate coat stand that looks remarkably like an exercise machine, but we don't talk about that.

People who really like their cat. Given all the photos of her we have on our wall.

@woodbine that's quite a good rule, but I assume some discretion is applied - some of my most precious things I don't actually get out that often, but I'd bin my laptop (that I use every day) before throwing those things away - it sounds like a pretty sensible general rule though

@OverlyAnxious ha ha that's amazing 😆 I don't think anyone would ever assume I have OCD, I'd say I was tidier than most people but my OCD doesn't manifest in the stereotypical way of having to have everything in order

@Jimm_Scope are you talking about the cat that still lives with you?? Or a cat who is no longer with you? I always found it funny having photos of something when you can just look at the real thing, but maybe she's an elusive cat?? 😂

@66Mustang The cat that is still with us 😛 I've lived with cats before, but this is the first cat that is "mine" (well, my partners and mine). She's not an elusive cat, anything but! We just love her and she's a part of our family now. Like how we have pictures of our other family members on the wall too. I guess we compare it to have your own kids pictures on walls 😄

@Jimm_Scope I can relate I guess, I wasn't overly keen on getting a dog at first but now like half the pictures in my phone's photo album have him in it 😆

@Cantilip your house sounds interesting… 😊 would we be able to work out what kind of person you are by looking at the books you have? 🤔

Well according to the builders, I live in a house with a teenaged son. They thought my room was a teenagers. 😆

A very neat teenager I must add.

I live in a shared house, but my bedroom is a pretty good representation of my personality. I reckon if someone didn't know me, they could describe me quite well based off the stuff I have in my room. I'd definitely say that generally our house looks like creative people live there, which makes sense because my housemates are all quite creative.

I'm not a minimalist at all, but I like that quote that's supposed to be from William Morris: "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." Although, I probably find a few too many things useful or beautiful and could do with a clear out!

@Rosie_Scope I guess you maybe would agree with me, there's a saying about science being more important than art, which might be true but I think art gives us the reason to want to put science to work in the first place

Yeah I think so too @66Mustang, Science will always be important but people rarely go through their lives without finding joy in some kind of art whether its TV/Film, paintings, music, fashion, books or something else 😊

I'd go as far as to say there's art in science. Have you ever looked at a hi-rez photo of a plant cell under a microscope? Absolutely stunning. ❤️

And a few friends have prints of various cells in their houses.

@Albus_Scope I wouldn't forget the fact that science and art can definitely overlap!!!! 😃
