Hi, my name is Bethbooh1975!
Right here we go,I have an appointee, which I don't need or want anymore,my "mother" set me up with one when I was really mentally unwell when I was 18 and I've had once since,I'm 29 now mentally better I can budget and I get a lot of money,I got a letter saying what benefits I get, she gives me no where near enough every week,I can even do a full month's shop because I get little to Non money, then when I paid everything shopping etc I'm left with less than a fiver, now I tell her every week that i want more money, but she only added an extra 30,and when i say I dont want or need her anymore she makes up excuses.. still not enough, she refuses to give me any of my money,im getting angry now, please give me advice

I'm sorry to hear this. It's not an easy or straightforward process changing an appointee or even removing an appointee.
You can try ringing the benefit department that pays your benefits and tell them that your mum isn't giving you all of your money and you are now able to manage your money yourself. Part of the agreement to being an appointee is that you use the money in the claimants best interests. Not giving you all of your money isn't in your best interests and in my opinion is financial abuse.

The Appointee is part of Wigan and Leigh council,I'm legit paying the appointee over 17 pounds a week to handle my benefits and stuff, and she barely gives me any money :( my let's call her mother set it up for me when I was 17 or 18 when I was a little mentally unwell,i didnt sign for anything etc,so isnt it fraud ? If my mum didn't get me to sign anything ?? She must of signed it in my name ?! But anyways I've asked Wigan council apointee people over the last 3-4 years I don't need them and their services anymore, they haven't even done anything about it.. all suspicious tbh x

Hi @Bethbooh1975, welcome to the community! I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've had with getting your benefits.
I'd just like to ask a few questions to clarify some things. You mention the appointee is part of the Wigan and Leigh council, but you ask your "mother" for the money? So your "mother" gets the money, and isn't giving you the total amount, but she isn't the actual appointee. And you've tried for years now to get control of your own benefits. Is the appointeeship just for benefits can I ask or does it cover more than just benefits?
Keep an eye out for an email from us too!
