Move in with Disabled Partner

I receive an old age pension of £630 a month and have savings and premium bonds well over £6000. My partner gets PIP and ESA (I think that is correct.) he owns his own house with no mortgage. He is twenty years younger than I am but unable to work because of disability. Will he lose his benefits if I move in with him? Also will my own state pension be affected?

Your state pension will not be affected. If your partner is claiming Income Related ESA then they will need to report the changes to ESA and their claim will need to be reassessed to include you on that claim.

Your state pension will be deducted in full and there will also be a deduction of £1/week for every £250 or part thereof over £6,000. Savings/capital of more than £16,000 means there's no entitlement to any means tested benefits.

If your partners ESA includes the Severe disability Premium then this will also stop unless you are either registered blind or you're claiming a qualifying disability benefit yourself, such as PIP/ADP daily living, DLA mid/high rate care or AA.

If they are claiming single person discount for council tax this will also stop. For council tax reduction, if they are claiming that some local Authorities have a maximum savings limit of £6,000 before entitlement to that stops. You will need to check their website.
