National Upcycling Day 2024
It's National Upcycling Day!
Upcycling means making something new and valuable out of something that might have otherwise been thrown away. It's a way to give new life to old stuff to reduce the waste that we put into the world and create new beautiful things from stuff we don't want anymore.
It can be as simple as using your old wellies as a plant pot or reusing an old jar as a piggy bank. Or for the more crafty amongst us, things like transforming a ripped pair of jeans into a new tote bag or sanding down an old piece of furniture to give it new life.
I'm quite handy with a sewing machine, so I've been able to repurpose clothes into other things in the past, but I wouldn't say I'm a very active up-cycler apart from that. I'm sure there's more I could be doing, so I'll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for things I might be able to repurpose from now on!
Have you ever upcycled anything? I'd love to see pictures if you have any!

I will have to share this with my Dad!!!!!
He is massively into upcycling and does it every day!! He is a caretaker for the NHS and goes round lots of different hospitals and is often told to dispose of stuff that they don't need anymore. Nothing particularly medical, he isn't a doctor! 😆 Most of it is perfectly good stuff though, so instead of binning it he just keeps it in storage because people often say "we really need a __" and most of the time he happens to have one
He does it because he doesn't like throwing perfectly usable things away, but it also saves the NHS probably hundreds of pounds a week, if all the people in the NHS did that then it would add up

Your dad sounds brilliant @66Mustang, it's great that people like him exist. I bet he does save them quite a bit of money as well!

that is really good, I recently got donated a hospital chair with adjustable legs which helps me a lot, your dads amazing to do this.😊
