Voting privacy as a person with limited vision.
Recently there's been a lot of talk on the topic of voting privacy, particularly concerning those with visual impairments. Fret not, as there is now a fantastic solution - the "McGonagle reader". This little box of brilliance is set to completely reshape the way we approach voting privacy.
Our friend, the brilliant Lucy Edwards, has made a video explaining how it all works. But here's a quick rundown - slip your voting paper into the machine and flick open the tabs to your left. The machine will then read out the text line by line, which in this instance, is a nominee's name. After you've located your preferred choice, just feel for the opening next to the tab to make your mark. It's as simple as pie, and the best part? No prying eyes.
Now, there's a slight catch. To get one of these at your local polling centre, you'll need to get in touch with your local council in advance. But hey, if you're quick, maybe you can have this at your polling booth for the next vote?

I'm also a postal voter these days @woodbine though I know some folk like to do it in the flesh, so this is a good way for them to be able to vote in peace, without needing anyone else with them. 😊
