Support/resources for parents with disabilities,

Hello! I'm Ellie and I live in a town in Devon. Dartmoor is one of my favourite places - although it's not the easiest place to visit with mobility issues, I always feel uplifted after going there.

I have increasingly bad M.E / CFS and suspected POTS. We have twin boys aged 7. They are wonderful but we are really struggling to cope.

I can't find much support/resources for parents with disabilities, and I'd be very interested if anyone knows of an organisation or forum, or group on here, that might be helpful.

Thanks for reading, take care

Ellie

    Hi @edartmoor

A warm welcome to the community.

I am sorry to hear about your struggles to visit your favourite places in your area.  It must be very difficult, especially with twin boys.  I am sure they are very active as boys can be.

You may already have accessed all the information in your area, but I have added a few links in case.

Living options have information on countryside mobility along with other information about accessibility.

Devon services for disabled people has a list of services for Devon. It may reveal one that you have not seen before.

You may have already been in touch with Adult social care but I have added it anyway.

Community, equality. disability action (CEDA) has community services.  It might be an organisation that can point you in the right direction.

There are also many people on the online community that may be able to help you.  It is a friendly place for a chat if that is something that you would like.

    I hope the information helps.

Take care and I hope you continue to enjoy Dartmoor.

    Doris

    Hi Doris

Thanks so much for your message. That's all extremely helpful and much appreciated. There are several organisations I wasn't familiar with.

Our last trip to Dartmoor we all sat a few steps from the car and had a picnic, then I stayed and waved and enjoyed the atmosphere while the other 3 went up Hay Tor and back. I was so happy to be there that I barely felt any sadness for not being able to see the view from the top - especially when they came back with photos to show me! The days when I feel I'm holding them back are much harder.

    VVery best wishes

    Eleanor
