Benefits Question

Hi Everyone

Hope you’re well

I live in a council home with my mum who has a mental illness schizophrenia, and she receives the ESA and PIP, however due to the location of where we live it can be a bit challenging with neighbours.

So I thought if my partner and I rent/buy a bigger house at a better location , and if my mum came to live with us as I look after her as well. Would she lose her ESA or PIP due to the new location being a rental or a bought house?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you move house, whether you own it or rent it, her ESA and PIP will continue as it is now. Even if she owned her own home that she lived in it wouldn't affect any of her ESA and PIP.

Thanks Poppy, wasn’t sure if she would lose it. Then the next step would be to hand the house back to the council. We tried to get a house at a better location but this has been a long wait despite my mums illness.

But at the same time I wonder if my mum should still keep the house in case she ever needs the house as future situations can change and she might want to get back to the house and have her space.

Your Mum wouldn't be allowed to move out and keep her council home.

Ok, another question, I sent my esa 50 form review ,in the beginning of January by special delivery, load of evidence, still not heard back , has anyone else the same ?

Had 2 weeks to get it in due to late delivery with the Christmas mail.

It’s perfectly normal to be waiting this long.

This makes me angry, I have just heard on talk tv, that a person who killed those poor students and caretaker in Nottingham, can apply for UC and Esa while inside .

So while we are getting penalised and our benefits cut,

    Unbelievable

This isn't really relevant to this thread. You can't claim the standard allowance part of UC while in prison. You can only claim for help with the rent through UC. https://www.gov.uk/benefits-and-prison/universal-credit#:~:text=You%20will%20not%20get%20the,Credit%20if%20you're%20single. You can't claim New style ESA either. PIP/ADP/DLA all stop if in prison for longer than 28 days.
