Carers Allowance and PIP

Hi,

I've been my partners carer for years and he is on PIP.

I've struggled with my hearing for years and basically have finally been brave enough/got to a point where it was affecting me so much to get it checked and they've confirmed that i need hearing aids in both ears and in their words 'i don't know how you've coped for so long with so little hearing'

Looking back now i've just 'coped' and found ways of getting around things and avoiding a lot of situations.

Now when the audiologist was explaining things to me, he mentioned PIP and that i should look into it.

My question is, being a carer for my partner (who has MH, anxiety and depression) - can i also claim PIP for myself along with carers allowance (obviously as long as i qualify)

Yes absolutely you can. Many people claim a disability benefit their self while claiming carers allowance for looking after someone. Of course if your carers duties contradict the reasons why you’re claiming PIP then it can go against you.

I claim PIP for myself and carers allowance for looking after my daughter. It doesn’t contradict the reasons why I claim PIP.

You’re welcome. No because they are different benefits.
