Will I get my son disability element back dated?
hi I’m new here and just looking for some advice so I suffer with anxiety myself. & have ptsd And thought when I sorted my universal credit account I thought they knew I care for my autistic son any long story short they didn’t and I haven’t claimed disability element for my son it’s now been verified and awarded to him but wanted to know would they back date the payments to when I started receiving DLA high rate for him??
Many thanks any advise appreciated thankyou

For the avoidance of doubt, caring for your son has nothing to do with disabled child element, that's related to the carers element.
If his DLA award includes high rate care then you'll be entitled to the higher disabled child element from the assessment period in which the DLA was awarded. If it's any other award you'll be entitled to the lower disabled child element.
You can also claim carers element if his DLA includes mid/high rate care, unless you're receiving the LCWRA element for yourself because both elements can't be paid to the same person.

You're welcome. To be clear for others reading this, there's 2 parts to DLA, care and mobility. To be entitled to the higher disabled child element your child must be claiming high rate CARE.
Is the reason why you won't get the carers element because you're receiving the LCWRA element for yourself? If so are you claiming UC with a partner?

Thanks again poppy for getting back to me.

Yes it will be paid from the AP in which the DLA was awarded from.
The extra information I gave was just incase others read this and didn’t understand the criteria.
