Hi, my name is stacey111!
I have a question my daughter Is still at University and doesnt finish until this August 31st she isn't working at the moment the council has asked for proof of income for housing benefit and council tax purposes is her University loan counted as proof of income I don't know what to send them

Uni courses usually finish way before 31st August. What was the actual date of the end of the course? Is she returning in September?
Show them proof of her student income and tell them she’s not working. If you’re claiming single person discount for council tax some local authorities do not apply the student discount during summer holidays.
Are you or a partner claiming a disability benefit such as PIP/ADP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care?

My daughter was suppose to finish earlier on but she has not been well and her work hasn't been completed she had to finish the work later than expected and this is her last year

Hello stacey! Welcome to the community 😊 Hope we can help with this. If the loan is from Student Finance England and, if I remember correctly her last student payment for a course starting in September is around April? Unless things have changed since I was last a student. So I don't believe she's had any income from that for 3 months now? You can show them the award leaflet she would have received from the start of the year, or should be on her student finance account.
If they don't believe she is still at university I would have someone from the University write a letter to evidence that she still is. This should be accepted by the university.

Surely there's an end date to the actual course? as that's what will matter to LA. You didn't answer my question about the disability benefit, are you or a partner claiming any of those?
The reason I'm asking is because if either of you are claiming any of those then non dependent deductions will not apply anyway.

HI my daughter has now left university she isn't working yet and she has leftover student loan that she hasn't used I'd like to know does this count as income and will it affect housing benefit

Her student loan will not be treated as income for your housing benefit.
Is she going to claim Universal Credit in her own right? If so then there will be no non dependent deductions for your housing benefit. There will also be no deductions if you’re claiming either daily living PIP or mid/high rate care DLA.
