As for Chilli con Carne: Whenever I went to the U.S.A. I would buy quite a few chilli kits and bring them back home to England. Chilli con Carne is so much more than beef beef mince with chilli spices and the chilli kits give you a complex blend of spice. You then have to serve it in the way you like best. Not being Mexican I like a dollop of sour cream and a good handful of grated extra strong cheddar. On the East Coast chilli kits are a bit difficult to source, but on the West Coast it is quite easy as there is a large Hispanic population.

I have never heard of a potato sandwich but it sounds intriguing! I just need a recipe…

I once had a lovely Hungarian landlady who introduced me to onion sandwiches. Basically sliced raw onion slathered with salt! It sounds horrid but I quite liked it.

It has to be roast beef done in slow cooker in a red wine sauce served with roast potatoes, dauphenoise potatoes and honey carrots. Love it.
