Hey @Catherine21, we don't fully know what these laws will be. There is nothing to suggest there are going to be forcing people into work. Do you mind me asking where you get told this information? You don't have to answer that, but if someone is telling you that disabled people are going to be forced into work I don't think it's a helpful place or person to get information from.

I think it's best to wait and see what the bills are

Sorry this is probably a stupid question but is there a definition of what is meant when "out of work" is mentioned?? I assume it means people who are out of work and claiming benefits?? Because I know loads of people who are over 50 and don't work, but don't claim benefits and are still economically active. I don't think it's bad to stop working if you can support yourself, in fact it could be argued that it frees up jobs for people who need them more

Do we have any feeling if bank spying will be back? Anyway, it'll takes ages for 35 bills to become law?

"Out of work" typically refers to individuals who are unemployed, meaning they are actively seeking and available for work. However, in broader discussions, it can also encompass the economically inactive population, depending on the context. Many individuals who do not work and do not claim benefits might be classified as economically inactive rather than unemployed.

With all due respect, out of work people could literally mean anyone that's out of work. It doesn't actually mean they are going for the disabled people. I can honestly see why your anxiety is through the roof because all this surely can't be helping you. Maybe you should stop reading what ever it is you're reading for a while.

In an ideal world I wouldn't have chronic anxiety my mental health wouldn't be affected by everything going ON ! Really gets to me when people gaslight I just pretend to be mary Poppins !! Not to offend the masses make no apology for anxiety thought this was a forum where people understood !!: this is why I get to the point of whatever let's talk about the weather adios

Hi Catherine, poppy isn't a counsellor nor is any of this her fault!
If you want to understand these plans, they are spelt out in the Welfare Reform and Work Act 2016, as I keep saying. Those laws are in place and nothing to do with Sir Keir or his new government.
I have mental health problems as do many members here. Name-calling is what leads to discussions being closed instead of providing mutual support so let's try to keep this open.

@Catherine21, I don't think poppy meant anything bad by their comment. They're just trying to look out for you by suggesting you don't read about things that will make your mental health worse.
It's great to have discussions we just need to remember that we'll have different opinions and it's easy to misinterpret words on a screen.
Sending you hugs, I know it's difficult for you at the moment.

Cantilip, UC was paused then we had lockdown. Those plans are now being implemented and seem to be taking people by surprise.
They could be repealed if we understood those reforms well enough to raise objections but I don't think we do.. The disabled community was misled back then, did not object loudly enough and the Act was allowed to pass.

*the bill was allowed to pass into law

I think there's some crossed wires going on here now. I don't think anyone meant anything bad with their comments @Catherine21 but I totally understand the anxiety. I've lived with pretty crippling anxiety most of my adult life and I know how bad it can get when it decides to fixate on something for you and you just cant let go. I call them my "head weasels" chittering in my ear constantly.
But right now, we don't know any definite answers and we often assume the worst due to the previous few governments decisions. I think it's best we don't try and interpret anything just yet, but I'm going to be staying hopeful. 🤞

Catherine, nobody is gaslighting you.
I misunderstood the Mary Poppins reference so apologies for that.
If I understand the welfare reforms it's because I've spent 10 years keeping on top of them with untold harm to my mental health as a result..
I am really frustrated that the disabled community has been silent for the last decade. These are not new plans and the new government cannot be blamed for them is all I'm trying to say!

May I be really upbeat? Is that allowed! OK, masses in this forum about what foflks don't want, which I think I can summarize as 'not being kicked any more'. Which concrete things would you like the new government to enact?

OK I'm sorry I'm so overwhelmed I regret my outburst I just have no control always have to say what's on my mind good or bad my logical mind agrees the fearful side attacks

No it's fine @Catherine21 we do understand. 😊
