My husband filled in a pip renewal form in and sent it off 2nd of April 24 and still has heard nothing back should we phone them and ask since it's been over 16 weeks now or just wait for an answer

That's not long at all to be waiting. There's extremely long delays with review decisions. I returned my form in November 2023 and still haven't had a decision. Some are still waiting a year after returning the form.
His PIP will continue until a decision is made on the review. Nearer the time of his award ending if a decision hasn't been made they will extend that award for 1 year and send a letter out to him advising him of this.
In the meantime all he can do is wait and try to concentrate on something else.

Hey @debra1981 and welcome to the community. 😊
As Poppy has said, PIP reviews can take quite a long time, mine took over a year, but I still received my PIP payments until the review was complete. Best of luck!
