hi, I did a austim questinare form send to me on referal from my M,H nurse,a year ago.Out of this I scorced 38/50 points. Is this classed as a high score in that area.

I am placed on the waiting list to have a further face to face session with my local austism department when my turn comes up.I also wanted to ask will my pip tribunal take this into consideration as the daily struggles I deal with are traits of autism so I have been told by my M.H nurse.

Thankyou for any advice

    Hi @Charlie5 😊

I'm not sure about your score, it isn't an area I'm familiar with. I'll pop your post into the PIP category so someone can hopefully help you with that part and maybe there'll be someone who is more familiar with autism questionnaires.

Heya @Charlie5 PIP isnt about any kind of diagnosis, only about how you're effected daily with your disabilities. So if you can get across to the tribunal how you struggle with each of the descriptors, you'll be ok. 😊

The questionnaire is just used by GPs and nurses to see if they think you should be put forward for an ASD assessment.

Hey @Charlie5 yes it'll be the same questionnaire which is used as a screener by all medical professionals They may send you further forms to fill in at a later date and may also ask your parents about your development as a child. It can get quite indepth, but it's well worth doing. 😁

    Fingers crossed for your tribunal.

Hi Charlie, how fortunate that your MH nurse noticed those traits as it's very common for them to be missed and often difficult to get a referral for an autism assessment.

There are lots of questionnaires to download and help prepare yourself for the assessment. I would advise taking someone with you for support in case you become overwhelmed and unable to process the questions or need time to pause and collect your thoughts.

My own diagnosis came very late in life so it was shocking to uncover all this information which fitted my behaviour and MH history but the knowledge helped me develop strategies to manage my emotions and make better decisions.

The Tribunal is very likely to notice any difficulty you have with communication if you make them aware of the new referral for ASD assessment before the hearing is held. You don't need a formal diagnosis to know you are autistic because once you know, you know. Not sure they can change any decision based on this but they should be told, yes.

WhatThe Thankyou kindly for your reply.

For my face to face assesment for autism when it happens ,at this stage I have not got anyone to attend with me,all my family live the other end of the uk.Yes I was very lucky my MH suggested it maybe traits of Austim, and within 3 weeks or so I was on the waiting list in my area for a face to face assesment. Its been a year now,and I was told from the start it would take 18 mths to 2 years before I am able to see anyone.

The tribunal have evidence on this, from my assesment for Pip,I gave them letters etc, though I do know its all about how your condition effects your daily living and mobility they base it on.I also have ptsd, social anxiety, depression.AND OCD.

Well thankyou again for your advice, very kind.Take care

Hi and thankyou for your kind reply. My tribunal was meant to have taken place yesterday, but it had to be cancelled as one of the tribunal members was involved in a car accident.Though they are ok,it wasnt too serious for them

Of course I was gutted on this,as waiting a year, and building yourself up to the actual day mentally, but these things couldnt be helped. The court phoned me and stated now it could be between 2-4 weeks time for the tribunal.

Hopefully the tribunal will notice what I struggle with.and my other conditions.

    Thankyou once again,very kind.

I'm so sorry to hear that @Charlie5 I can totally empathise, one of my tribunals was cancelled on the day and I know how much you psyche yourself up for them. Hopefully they won't keep you waiting too long. And just be calm with the tribunal and take your time, they're there to help you. 😊

    Hi again Charlie 😀

You sound remarkably calm all things considered. What strength we have because of disability.

I want to echo what Rachel said about points. You are halfway there with the referral and the rest will fall into place - if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…
