Carers Allowance Suspended
Hello All, I am a registered carer for my husband who has parkinsons disease. I let the carers unit know in april that we now have a tenant and jointly we receive £800 in rent, 400 is mine, 400 is my husbands which he will be taxed on. I was paid carers in april and may but then they suspended my allowance. For the last 4 weeks I have phoned every day asking for an update as even if they count the rent as an income not investment, it is still below the threshold of earnings. Now I have expedited my case and was told on wednesday that in 72 hours they would look at my case and tell me what is going on. I still have not had any update! It is so incredibly worrying and I am so stressed. I have spoken to so many charities including disability law and citizens advice who all say I will be fine and the suspension will be lifted, but why, oh why is it taking so long to look at my case? We simply do not understand. Any possible reason on this forum would be brilliant. Thank you.

I'm confused why it was suspended anyway because capital doesn't affect entitlement to Carers allowance because it's not means tested in that way. If it was treated as income then as you stated, it's below the £151/week earnings.
All I can advise is that you ring them again on Monday. Are you claim or your husband claiming any other benefits?
