Hey all,

following a car accident (my fault clipped a kerb and it caused my car to flip on its roof as travelling down a hill on a bad bend) I was relatively unharmed but I was left with foot drop. I have very limited use of my left foot and pins and needles in both my hands to the point I can’t even grip a pen and require my 12yr old to assist in a large amount of help in day to day life. I walk with crutches and no longer able to drive.

I’ve been surviving on my redundancy payment but it’s quickly running out and my disability has led to the breakdown of my relationship so I am now fending for myself and the little one. Can I ask what support others are receiving? Are there any routes out there? I’m 38 years of age and this is the first time I’ve been unemployed since having a paper round. I’m not asking for sympathy just a little way I can look for some light at the end of these worries. Thanks for reading

Hello @stuckonacrutch just wanted to say hi 👍 I'm sure they'll be others able to give you lots of proper sound advice and pointers. It's all a bit confusing stuff, but financially, after not being able to continue with my job, I was advised to claim for benefits to help keep my head above water. Local councils are able to help with home adaptions if needed and there are some grants out there which may be available to help make things a little easier. I'm sure others have a wealth of knowledge to share with you.👍

    Welcome to the community @stuckonacrutch.

You could use this benefits calculator https://benefits-calculator.turn2us.org.uk/ to see what you may be entitled to. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/ are great for advice on what you can claim.

I'm sure there'll be others here who can add their own experiences. We do have categories especially for benefits such as Universal Credit which maybe helpful for you https://forum.scope.org.uk/categories/universal-credit 😊
