I have been claiming Universal Credit for myself and my wife, who is my full-time carer. I am also claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP), for which I have been awarded a 10-year period and the enhanced rate for both components, as my health condition will not improve. I also receive the limited capability for work-related activity (LCWRA) component. Unfortunately, my wife and I are separating after 16 years. Could you please advise me on what will happen to our Universal Credit claim and whether I need to submit a new claim?

Yours sincerely,

Garry

You will both need to report a change of circumstances and your claims will revert to single claims. I'd advise you to take a screenshot of the decision letter for the work capability assessment before reporting changes. Once you report changes you will lose everything on your journal, including all statements and journal entries.

If they are no longer caring for you then your Ex will be treated as a job seeker.

Hello @broomy79, welcome to the community 😊 I imagine it's a pretty difficult time for you right now, do you have any other support around you at all? Any family or friends?

Poppy is right that you will need to submit a change of circumstances and have the claim changed into a single claim for yourself. Save what you can on your journal to evidence later and submit the change of circumstances, please do ask any other questions if you aren't sure of something!

I'm also just going to move this discussion over to our Universal Credit category 🙂
