Depending on your UC assessment period dates for yourself you may not receive any further payments for your son on your claim.

When you claim UC for him he will not be entitled to any Transitional Protection because he isn't claiming any benefits to migrate from. He was named on your claim as a non dependent.

You will need to make sure you report his health condition and provide a fit note note within 7 days of that. He will need to go through the work capability assessment because he hasn't yet claimed any benefits in his own right to be declared unfit for work. A PIP claim doesn't automatically entitle him to LCWRA.

When you claim UC for him you will need to make sure you tell them that he's a student. Students and full time students do not mix so you may have some issues.

If he'll be receiving any student maintenance loans then they will affect his UC.

Hello @motheroffour. I noticed you said you are your son's appointee. Are you wishing to be his appointee for UC as well as PIP? It doesn't automatically carry across to all benefits so you'll need to let UC know you'd like to be his appointee for UC when you begin the claim.

You are correct, it didn't used to be but they recently changed that and now it should carry over. There's been a few members here recently where it's carried over. It makes it a lot easier for the appointee that they don't have to go through that process again. I never understand when you had to in the first place.

HIs claim won't start until you submit the application. You can start to fill out the form and you have 28 days to submit it, otherwise you'll need to do the form again.

To be sure once you have access to his journal pop a message on there to remind them that he's claiming PIP and you're his appointee but as I advised it should automatically be put into place anyway.
