Hi, I’m new and I’m desperate for housing help
for the past 7 years I have been to every single advice body, charity, council, housing association and I am still in housing which is totally unaffordable for me.
I am disabled and in a wheelchair, my husband has a medical condition and we have four children, yet we both work fulltime.
Due to a lack of homeless accommodation that can accommodate my disability, we were unable to be housed when we became homeless and were forced into self funded holiday homes and then found a private rent which is luckily suitable for my disability, but massively over our budget. We have utility bill debt, credit debt and we have to be really careful about our expenses. We have no savings and no life really.
we have approached the council, they have no properties. Our bedroom entitlement should be 5 due to regular carer and ages of children, but we are capped at 4 bedrooms on LHA.
We are constantly fighting fire to survive. Everything for disabled people costs more. Getting jobs is harder. Constant hospital appointments is costly. The cost of everything is going up and we cannot keep ourselves above water.
I’m worried about when we stop being able to pay the rent and lose the house what will happen, since there is no emergency accommodation and there is no housing or plans to build any accessible housing?
I’m trying to avoid my children going through the homeless system and I am trying to find accommodation that meets our needs within our budget, but despite both earning about national minimum wage incomes, it’s simply not possible, even with benefit top up.
This country has a disabled housing crisis and it’s literally killing people. I am so stressed my cortisol levels are constantly high and I’m constantly sick.
We need accessible housing and those houses that are already accessible on the private rental and sale market need to be offered to disabled people first of all.

Hi @hopelesslysearching welcome to the community.
I'm so sorry to hear about your housing troubles. Have you spoken to anyone from Shelter yet? I'd say they'd be your first port of call. Have you spoken to your local MP too? They can often help speed things along for you.0
