UC has requested 4 months of bank account statements. This has gotten me stressed due to the fact that i don't know whether receiving money from family (600-800+ depending on the month) is a matter that will be penalised. i don't get paid much UC. and iv needed assistance on paying arrears and council payments.

Advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Heya @CollateralCat and a warm welcome to the community. 😊

Please try not to panic too much, it's quite normal for UC to ask for bank statements, they do it with many people. It's just so they can check your benefits are all correct and you don't have millions in your account.

I'm not sure how they stand on regular donations from family members, but I'm hoping one of our super smart regulars will be able to answer that bit soon.

No problem at all @CollateralCat I remember that feeling of dread when I was asked for my bank statements as well. πŸ˜†

@Albus_Scope was there anything in particular you were worried about but ended up being fine if you don't mind me asking?

Sure @CollateralCat I suffer from very bad anxiety (especially in social situations), so having a letter drop saying I needed to attend an appointment and to bring bank statements just really got me panicking. It was the fear of the unknown I think. But it was all fine, they were very polite and didn't ask too many questions.

I entirely understand this @Albus_Scope! I am very introverted and also have bad anxiety. partially why i'm relieved that i only have to upload documents rather than it being face to face.

Money from family will be treated as capital and not income. Providing you capital didn't go over Β£6,000 at anytime then it will be fine.

Oh okay that is a relief then. i had been reading that in some places and then seeing otherwise on other websites. But thank you for this @poppy123456.

    Appreciate you.
