Does your landlord know you're on UC and 'Authority' will know about the cash payments? I'm a bit thinking why doesn't he want the money on his bank statements? Sorry to have a nasty suspicious mind!

It won't affect your UC but I would be asking for a receipt as proof you've paid your rent, for your piece of mind.
Having rented myself privately for many years in the past I've never known any landlord wanting to be paid cash or even having a rent book. I thought rent books were a thing of the past. What the LL does is no one business as long as you have a tenancy agreement and everything is as it should be.
