Hi I'm Cheryl I'm Autistic and have a really hard struggle with my neighbours.

I've lived in my area for 21 years but it hasn't been an easy ride for me.

Over the last few years they stopped talking to me altogether, don't know why.

There is lots more I could mention but it's very long winded.

Bottom line is I don't know what I can do.

I feel lonely, isolated with no friends and no one to talk to

I’m sorry that your neighbours aren’t at all friendly. Are there any clubs in your area that you could perhaps join to make some different friends? They have an autism social club near me and where I used to live there was a peer support group in the local area that was open to anyone who was struggling with their mental health or feeling isolated / lonely.

I don't think they're doing anything wrong by simply not talking to you. If they are actively causing more nuisance then that's different. Speaking personally, I would feel very intimated if a neighbour kept trying to talk to me. This is one of the problems with the word 'autism'…there are polar opposites on the spectrum, some can't stand social engagements, while others need them, some can't stand noise, while others scream and shout. There's never going to be a place that's suitable for all of us.

Hi @Chezza03 welcome to our community 😊 Sorry to hear your neighbours have drifted away. That can sometimes happen unfortunately. You say there are groups that you sometimes go out to and have a happy time, but you're depressed when you get home. Are there any groups you like that are also online?

Also, I know this isn't suitable for everyone, but my own personal experience I find having a pet does some wonders for loneliness at home. Is that something you could consider?
