Enhanced PIP awarded but no back payment
I am hoping to seek some further advice.
Today , I had a call from DWP confirming that my husband will be awarded the enhanced rate for daily and mobility which was great news after such a long wait. However, I was told that he would not get any back payment as he was in hospital for six weeks although has been home for seven . I don’t understand it.
We were relying on the back payment as I had to give up my job to become his full time carer.
I don’t know whether to contest this as to be honest, I don’t have the energy . Any ideas why this would have happened?
many thanks

It can’t be paid if in hospital for more than 28 days. What date exactly did you claim and what date did he return home?
If you start a claim while in hospital it can’t be paid until you leave.

thanks Poppy. First call to them was on the 4th June and discharged on the 26 June but I was also originally told back pay would be from the day of the accident (18/5)

No problem. It definitely could never have been from the day of the accident because you didn't start the claim until after the accident. May I ask who actually advised you that? Was it someone from the PIP Call centre by any chance?
One other thing I didn't think about in my previous comment. For PIP you must have had the difficulties for at least 3 months and expect them to last at least a further 9 months. He qualifies for the forward test but not the backward test, if he didn't have any difficulties before the accident. I did also advise this in your first thread.
Did they say when the award would actually start?
