So much for today!
Had a parcel to send to someone, a birthday present, so I thought I'd use the Royal Mail collection service, where they pick it up from your doorstep. They were to collect it today. Anyone coming to the door at an unknown time needs me in my bedroom, nearest the front door. Nobody came. Therefore whole day trapped in bedroom. To add insult to injury, a postie in fact delivered mail. The fun by no means stopped there. I tried to ring them. Because I was giving a collection number not a tracking number, the bot rejected it, which was bad enough and which was worse lectured me in an extremely plummy voice on not saying a for alpha, b for bravo and so on, which I had not done. I therefore found the complaints form on their website, duly completed it and clicked SUBMIT. Nothing happened. Form triple and quadruple checked. Nothing happened. I also 'reached out' on Twitter. At 20.02 I got an email to say they were sorry they hadn't collected. Would I like a refund. It will go somewhere towards the cost of DPD, yes.
This just adds another entry to the list of things I've tried to organize which have met a massive FAIL. Perhaps the country should be renamed INCOMPETENCE. Has anyone had any successes lately? I actually think that some problems with the DWP aren't focused on people being disabled, they're just part of a wider malaise.

Far from successes for me today. I've been trying to chase a form that I sent back to DWP weeks ago. After being directed to multiple departments I was finally told my form arrived 5 days beyond the deadline and has been sent back to another department who apparently don't have it. Thankfully I obtained a tracking number for the form sent via Royal Mail. It arrived within two days of me posting it and 2 weeks before said deadline. I could feel the fella shrugging his shoulders through the phone๐. I'm now in the land of limbo, waiting for someone to figure out what, where and how to deal with the situation. Don't worry though, someone will apparently get back to me within the next 16 days.๐ Brill.

That sounds frustrating @Cantilip. It's all well and good offering a refund but the point is you paid for a service, they can't just not do it and give you your money back and think that's ok. It's especially worse as you had to go through so much to even get a reply! It would be lovely if services worked as they should ๐

You'd think with the problems Royal Mail are having and moaning people don't send things or use stamps like they used too, they would make it a priority to collect from you. Services in this country are in such a state at the moment.

Hi @Cantilip What a nightmare for you. The trouble is we get no service anymore. It does not seem to matter what service you ask for there is always a problem, and we have too chase them.

I've found with the Royal Mail the quality can really depend on how much your local postie actually cares. Where I live now is the best postie I've ever had, lovely guy, he remembers names and faces. If you pass him on the street he'll stop and have a brief chat just to see how you're doing, even though they're given limited time for deliveries. Despite that he's never been late or missing when it comes to delivering the post.
After hearing the stories here I'm wondering if he deserves a medal ๐
I will just mention @Cantilip, the postie that delivers the post and the postie that handles things like picking up parcels are nearly always different people! I'm glad you got your money back at least, I've also had good experience with DPD so I hope that goes a lot better than your Royal Mail experience has gone.
