Staying in a council flat you be been in for the last 30 odd years.
Hello my name is Tom. I have secondary progressive ms and am in a wheelchair. My son lives here. I have carers who visit 3 times a day my flat has 2 bedrooms if my son decided to go elsewhere would I still be able to stay here _it's a small estate and I have built up a strong support group here over the last 30 years.
Anyone in the same situation?

Yes you would be able to stay there but I'm not sure if you would have to pay bedroom tax.

Thank you that could be something to think about. I hadn't thought about that

Just a thought you may not be affected by the bedroom tax if you were to use it for your aids and equipment
You would need to look into that as not all councils have the same rules.

Yes I'll definitely look at that. I sleep downstairs and have bedwashes. But I have a stairift and an adapted bathroom and sometimes my carers help me upstairs and give me a wash there

Bedroom tax only affects working age people that rent from social housing. If you are over state pension age then you won't be affected by a spare bedroom.
If you're privately renting then bedroom tax doesn't apply. Instead your rent entitlement will be based on the local housing allowance for the area you live and your circumstances.
What ever your situation is if you're claiming a disability benefit such as PIP daily living, DLA mid high rate care or AA and you need regular overnight care then you can claim for an extra bedroom.

Day time care doesn't apply. It needs to be overnight care.
