UC review

I have been recieving UC for approx 4 years, I have recently been awarded lwcra but still working, I am struggling hugely with my mental health, more than ever, I am a complete wreck at the moment moment. UC have requested both mine and my partners bank statements, and have now got myself completely stressed worrying. My mom has been transfering me money, and I have been putting cash into my bank to pay my rent, (all borrowed money) it's literally in my bank then right back out for rent, is this anything I should be worried about? I have also sold a couple of items to help me get by, only around £100 prob once or twice? I hate how I'm getting myself into a state over this but I cmt help it. Can anyone shed any light on this please.

This will be part of the reviews they are doing for millions of people claiming UC. Any money that's given to you by your mum will be treated as capital/savings and if those have remained below £6,000 then you'll be fine.

You can sell personal items without it affecting your UC and it will not be treated as Income.

If they ask about those transactions then just tell them what they were for.

Hi @bkj13, welcome to the community. Sorry to hear you're feeling so stressed about your UC review.

I haven't been through one of these reviews myself, but from what I've heard from other members they are usually quite straightforward and often people say it was easier than they thought it was going to be.

It's usually to check that you're getting the right money, and also that you're not going over the savings limits or deliberately hiding money to keep yourself below these limits. If you've got genuine reasons for money coming in and out and you can explain these, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Selling a few things here and there shouldn't be a red flag either. After you've submitted your bank statements they might want to ask you some routine questions about certain transactions, but again, from what I've heard this is usually quite straightforward.

Hopefully it'll all go through without a hitch 😊
