Hello,

Please could I get some advice from you all, if my carer moves in with me (he is employed and does not claim carers allowance, but receives PIP) would I lose my housing benefit.

Would this effect my UC also.

Thank you so much for any help.

Is this a partner? If not do you claim a disability benefit yourself such as PIP/ADP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care?

You mention housing benefit but then also mention UC. If it's UC you're claiming then you will only be claiming housing benefit if you're living in either supported or temporary housing. If you're not then your rent will be paid in with your UC known as housing element. It's completely different to housing benefit.

Hi Poppy thank you for your reply.

He is not a partner just my long term carer. I receive PIP mobility and daily living components.

I am sorry I made a mistake, I receive UC and housing element that is paid directly to my Housing association, I live in a flat. I would like to know who I should contact to let them know about my household change as I don’t want to make and mistake. I currently receive all my rent paid via housing element and full council tax discount.

    thank you for your time.

You will not lose any housing element because your PIP includes the daily living part. You should still report the changes that your carer is now living with you but your housing element will remain the same as always because your rent is already being paid in full.

You will also need to inform your local Authority and you will lose the single person discount on your council tax. You can ask about the carers discount which is 25% due to you claiming daily living PIP.
