Up to about 12 weeks, sometimes longer. Are you claiming any other benefits, if so which one's please?

Thank you. Then there will be no financial gain to claiming it because it's deducted in full from any UC entitlement. The only advantage is for CA you receive class 1 NI credits but for UC it's class 3.
You need to make sure your UC includes the carers element, unless you're also claiming the LCWRA element because the same person can't receive both elements at the same time.

Your wife will not be able to claim carers element because she's claiming the LCWRA. Yes, one of you can claim carers element and the other claim LCWRA element, which is what you're already doing. There will be no financial gain to claim carers allowance.
