Trying to move to be close to family

hi all ,

I’m trying to move from Bournemouth to North Somerset as my daughter is having another baby ( yay)

I’m on ESA ( for CPTSD ) and work part time but I’m finding it hard to find someone who will accept ESA .

I tried social housing but it’s impossible to even get on the list, my gp says there’s no point in them writing to the council .
Does anyone know of any organisation which could help me?
Cheers

Hi @haylesbells, congratulations on your new grandchild, that's so exciting 😊

Unfortunately as I'm sure you've found, it can be really difficult to find private rentals that will accept people on benefits. There's still some real problems with landlords thinking we're unreliable, but it's not totally impossible if you keep searching. I know some people have had better luck dealing directly with landlords rather than trying to go through agencies. OpenRent might be worth a look if you haven't already tried that:

OpenRent | Property To Rent From Private Landlords

Shelter have a page about finding rentals when you're on benefits:

How to find landlords or agents who accept benefits - Shelter England

When it comes to organisations that could help I'm not too sure, but I'll keep thinking. Hopefully some of our members have been through something similar and can share their experiences too 😊

@haylesbells I have sent you a private message, I am in that area I might be able to help and advise.

It depends upon what part of North Somerset you want to be.

You would have different local newspapers and it has been years, but they used to have a section for flats to let etc in the local rag.

You would be classed as not having a local connection, which is why you might not be able to get onto the housing site.

You could argue however, that you need a move for you to be looked after.

That might still be rejected as we have had a surge in people applying, on my housing website, they said about 9,000 people applied and it is taking a couple of months for updates to be carried out on the accounts.

If you have any questions, I can either answer them here, or via private message.

    Regards

    Mark
