Moving from tax credits to UC

Hi all

Iv had to make the move from tc to Uc, so im stressing...

Im on high rate daily pip

Im claiming as a couple,so will try to add as much info as i can,

My partner works 26hours a week self employed but on a low income, i am unable to work as i dont leave the house and have multiple mental health issues...

My worrys are that they are going to want me to attend appointments which is not going to be possible for me,

Also worry they are going to say my partner should be doing more hours and be on a higher wage...but hes unable to as he has to be available for me as and when i need him as awful as that sounds.

I put off claiming pip for years when told to as the thought of asessments scared me but finally plucked up the courage back in 2021, so the thought of them at uc possibly asking for asessments with me terrifies me!

Any help or advice would be great

Thanks in advance

    Good afternoon @jessica141.

I have a few questions which will help me answer you more fully if that's okay?

Does your partner claim Carer's Allowance or care for you at all? Do you currently receive ESA or any other benefits aside from Tax Credits and PIP?

Hi yes He cares for me but dosnt claim for it as we were told it would be deducted from pip payments and works out less? We were on working tax, child tax amd housing benefit

Afternoon @jessica141, it sounds like they may have given you some incorrect advice as there wouldn't be deductions from your PIP if your partner claimed as your carer. The only time it would make a difference is if you were claiming SDP which unless your partner also claims PIP (or AA/DLA), you wouldn't have been entitled to.

As your partner is self employed they won't ask him to look for more work, but after the start up period they may apply the minimum income floor. If he was registered as your carer and received the carer element of UC, this wouldn't apply and he would not be asked to look for work.

With regards to yourself, have you reported your conditions to Universal Credit to begin the work capability assessment process?
