Hi

could anybody advise on my situation?
My son is 19 years old and at his second year of college. He has autism and does a pathways to independence course. He is also on full PIP.

UC have sent a note in my journal that I will no longer get an amount for him. Can he apply for UC himself? There is no way he would be able to get a job and study because of his condition. I’m in despair as I’m still responsible for him but have a disability myself and cannot work.
Can anybody advise on what to do?

Thank you

Hi @headinthestars, sorry you're feeling so stressed out by your situation, but please don't despair, there's definitely things you can do 😊

As your son is an adult, he should be able to make a claim for Universal Credit himself. You might need to check about what he can claim alongside his studies, but it's well worth looking into. If you feel he wouldn't be able to do this on his own, as vikki66 mentioned above, you can look into becoming his appointee, so you manage the claim on his behalf.

There's some information you might find useful on the Scope website:
