I'm not sure I'd trust myself with one of those 🤣 Is there a local allotment group in your area at all @onedayatatime ? I've found that sometimes they can be very helpful in supporting people with gardening!

Don't mention decking @Beaver79 ,ours is a disgrace.

I was going to sort it out last summer,but the weather changed for the worse before I had a chance.

@Jimm_Scope thank you, that's a great idea. I think I'll keep that in mind for future garden jobs. Despite being a bit nervous handling one of those burners, there's a little bit of me that's quite excited 👍🤭 I think it's the idea of holding onto some sort of ignited gas cannister that worries me, but once it gets going I'd probably be in my element! There's also the option of an electric one 👍 With a bit of supervision, it could be good fun. I love the jet washer as well 👍👍😁

the trouble with burning the weeds is that they only burn the top you will still be left with the root that will still put up the weed again

The bane of my gardening life is dandelions. I have a specific fork that's meant to make it easier to dig up their taproots without disturbing too much soil. I've seen dandelion taproots as thick as my thumb and twice as deep as the flower was high!

and like a dock root break it to leave a small piece in the ground and it will grow

We've tried to let things just grow this year (a weed is just a flower you don't want after all), but having to deal with a tonne of things with big taproots isn't filling me with joy, so I've started nuking ones that have flowered. It's certainly tough work once the taproots get thicker and longer.

I planted this seventeen years' ago and this is the first time it's flowered like this.

The only thing we seem to be able to grow are some pretty determined weeds!

It's always flowered @Adrian_Scope and it smells gorgeous,but the blossoms are practically weighing it down this year.

Maybe because I pruned it quite drastically in the spring.

Im sure next doors got 1 to that hangs over mine, if it is the same one. The flowers go brown then flower and the bees love it

think you will find it flowers on the prior years growth and best time to prune is just after flowering nip it back to an outside facing leaf node as that is where it will flower next year if it gets to woody at the bottom you can cut it back to the ground and start all over again

We've been busy tidying the front garden,I was going to take some photos today but it's hammering down.

I did some weeding in the front garden yesterday. A single south african daisy sprouted from last years flowers. We weren't expecting it! One of them must have left a seed that survived. We've planted some marigolds and sunflowers this year.

I found a rather puny peony when I pruned the castor oil plant this afternoon @Sandy_123,it was buried under the honeysuckle that collapsed when our dopey neighbour damaged the wall.

It was there when we moved in and it had lovely pink flowers on it,unfortunately that little corner of the garden's been quite neglected and we forgot it was there.
