GP - doctor patient confidentiality - can I exclude receptionists from interacting with my record

I am going through a very difficult time with communication to others - have FND and anxiety among other things.

I am only comfortable with one of the doctors at the practice and I don’t want to share my information with others

is it possible to request this ?

also they have a very limited window from 8am to 11am where you need to fill an online consult. They don’t allow you to email

So no matter how accurately I write my issue and make the appointment something goes wrong as the reception either doesn’t care or just lousy at their job. So be cause of their mistakes I keep having to repeat .. the same issue and delay my treatment

They don’t acknowledge any of this

It is affecting my mental health

what Can I do about this ?

    @filifou,

    Firstly welcome and to say hello from me. Thank you for being able to share your question.

    Its not always easy to talk as people think. And it not always easy to discuss "private or personal issues" of any sort. The simple answer is YES. While the receptionist is only getting the notes for the doctor to review your case before he sees you, your files are sealed under the Confidentiality Act.

    Simply when asking for an appointment you can state if you have had a consultation before, and its a review. Or that you wish to see the doctor on a personal issue, and would rather discuss this with them.

    This includes things like lack of erection, loss of Libido, or even women's problems.

    The Surgery is there to help you and so is the Doctor. Never suffer in silence because you will not ring. An early diagnosis of that niggly pain in the breast, or it's only a back twinge can help recovery quicker if caught sooner.

    Just try to be as specific as you want, but certainly, say if you would rather not state what is wrong as its personal, and then mention to the Doctor that you have problems bringing this to their attention and he will help.

    So, talking of help, I hope this helps you and others who are afraid to make that call.

    What seems like "I don't want to bother them about it, because it's not that important" starts with you.
