Medical evidence

hi all! I’m applying for enhanced benefits using a UC50 form, which suggests to include medical documentation. Can I use hospital discharge letters for this? I have many because of mental health related admissions, inclusive of suicide attempts, but I’m a bit worried about them for some reason. It’s a really personal aspect of life. Tia!

Heya @amylase and welcome to the community. 😁

You can include discharge letters if you wish, though I'd say they're not essential. The assessor will speak to you and you can always explain that way? You don't need to go into super detail of course, I totally understand they're very personal to you. But trust me, the assessors have heard all sorts!

I would say it depends on what information is in the letters. If it goes into details about your health conditions then yes it's definitely worth including them.

I totally understand they are personal letters but you need to do all you can to prove you qualify for LCWRA and leaving out potential evidence could go against you.

Not quite sure what you mean by 'enhanced benefits' - enhanced is a term used for the higher rate under PIP not for the out-of-work ill health / disability elements of UC which can be either LCW or LCWRA. You cannot apply for LCWRA it can only recommended following a WCA.

Include all evidence be it clinical or something such as a diary recording how well you felt when last doing an activity. Please be assured that all evidence submitted will be treated confidentially and less is not more in this context. The health professional needs to see as much documentary proof as possible in order to make a recommendation to the DWP Decision Maker.

    Best wishes
