Hi, my name is sorrytoask!
The hospital instructed me to apply for DLA for my son as they said the extra money would help us with managing my son's condition. I applied under special rules and asked for a form on 18th august and they received it on 25th september. He passed away a couple of days ago so what do I do? Do I call them to stop the claim? It probably hasn't been processed yet and I don't want to get money I will have to pay back but if we're entitled to any money for him it would help as we got into a lot of debt caring for him as he needed 2:1 care 24 hours
what am I meant to do in this situation?

I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss!
You will need to contact them to report this and you will receive any money that’s owed up until the day he passed away.

Hi @sorrytoask, I'm so sorry for your loss. It must be a difficult time right now. I would inform them of the date he passed away and you should still be eligible for any money up to that point.
If there are any other questions please do just ask away, or if you just want something to chat about we're happy to listen and chat away. This is an open space 🙂

Hi @sorrytoask, looks like you've already had some answers to your question, but I just wanted to pop in to say I'm so sorry for the loss of your son.
I hope you can get his DLA sorted without too much stress. If you have any more questions about things or just need to chat, please do let us know ❤️

I am sorry you and your family are going through this.
In addition to the DLA, once you receive the award letter, if you meet the other criteria, such as not earning more than £151 a week, you can apply for Carer's Allowance for the period the DLA was paid for. There is also an 8 week run-on of Carer's Allowance after the person has passed away, so you should receive around 3 month's worth.
