I would either see another doctor in the surgery you go to or you go directly to A&E if your not getting any luck. I ended up going to A&E for something that doctors kept messing me about with, was my only option.

You have to stay on the blood thinners until you see specialist. Don't keep stopping and starting….

Look for a vascular surgeon that's accepts right to choose patients and then ask your gp for a referral to them through right to choose

I’ve not seen a specialist it’s a n e that gave me the thinners they only give them for a set period of time I don’t have a choice but to stop them if I don’t have them it’s a proper struggle

I can only stay on the thinners for the fixed period they give them to you for hun x

Sounds like you need to request your GP to refer you to a specialist to NHS to get to bottom of your situation ,they have got you on the GP merry go round ,its a stalling tacktic ,they have to refer you if you request it

Hi @suzymaltwood2612 Can you GP not give you some more blood thinners? If your clots keep coming back you need to be on them longer. I cannot believe you are being treated so badly. Please take care of yourself.

Sorry to read again someone is struggling to obtain care through NHS! A previous post is correct you should not stop taking the blood thinners. The Hospital (or source of origin) are usually only permitted to supply a minimal supply of medication (often only two weeks occasionally a month's supply) then it is up to your GP to continue to supply the medication until you have seen a Consultant and they advise stopping, which would be unusual.
If you are still on this merry go round, contact the Patient Advise Liaison Team via your Hospital (every Hospital should have one or know how to access them).
Hope this is helpful.

I'm also baffled why the GP isn't keeping you on blood thinners if you keep getting clots each time you stop @suzymaltwood2612. Is there another condition or reason for them to not want to keep you on blood thinners?

You can get thinners from your gp, I was put on them by my gp. [Removed by moderator - medical advice]

@Jimm_Scope hey no there is no reason not to keep me on them the gp has said I may need to go on n them permanently but without seeing a specialist he can’t prescribe them I’ve been on them on and off since Feb which means a trip to a n e each time

This is a shocking waste of time and resoures of the AE by your GP ,are you having a face to face appointment with your GP or are you being fob off with phone appoitments ,? i would insist on a face appoi tment and take somone with you to help you get the information why they are not treating you with the medication you clear.y need ,i have found that having my daughter with me has alway proven more productive when dealing with my GP face to face

I’m so sorry that you’re having such a battle to be seen. I’m on blood thinners for life, I’ve had 3 blood clots. Have you had your bloods taken to Check your levels? As that will show your blood cloting levels would be higher than normal and will then need to go and have a scan to confirm ?
I know when I had my first blood clots years ago I was only on blood thinners for 6 months. Then a couple of months after coming off them I got another one so was then on them again long term.

this is unbelievable, clots are really serious ( I’ve had pulmonary embolisms twice now and was hospitalised last year ) I’m on life long apixiban now . You really need to push to see a specialist asap and tell your GP you need more thinners until you see the specialist. If any pain or shortness of breath etc go to A & E asap and tell them you need a d-dimer blood test .
