Universal Music Day - What's your favourite song?
Ok, ok, I'll admit it, I'm a day late, sorry! Anyway, I'm a huge lover of music and I've seen lots of discussions around the community that tell me that a lot of you are too!
Here are some music-based discussions we have going on already:
Music is an amazing way to be creative and express ourselves. Who doesn't love to sing along to music whilst doing the housework? I know most of you will have 'performed' with a hairbrush as your microphone in your bedroom when you were younger (or maybe that's just me).
There are so many genres and sub-genres now, from pop to country, to liquid funk to furniture music! Do you listen to any lesser-known genres? Let us know and we can discover some new tunes!
Random music facts
- Mozart sold more CDs than Beyonce in 2016
- South Korean scientists found that plants grow faster when they're played music. What do you think a peace lily would like to listen to?? Classical??
- The most expensive instrument ever sold was the 'Lady Blunt' Stradivarius violin which sold for almost $16 million!
Benefits of Music
When you listen to your favourite songs, your brain releases dopamine which is a mood-booster. I love listening to music and it definitely makes me feel better. I do love a good sad song though when I'm feeling a bit down too. What's your pick-me-up song?
As well as making us happier, listening to music can also reduce stress, and singing along can help boost the immune system. So, sing out loud and proud!
Let's talk all things in music and discover some new songs along the way 😀

Ok so I guess I can't just throw out a genre like 'furniture music' and not give an example. Here's a compilation of furniture music by Erik Satie, who composed the infamous Gymnopedies. The music is designed to be largely ignored and should be thought of as 'part of the furniture'.
I think it'd be quite nice to listen to when doing housework. What do you think?

I enjoy listening to music. It calms me down. Favourite are Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and many more.

I also like a lot of music. Could never pick a favourite! 🙂

I'd not heard that song @vikki66 but I like it! You can't help but have a little boogie to it. I love that you like such a wide range of genres. Could I interest you in some Department Store music???
I guess you're right about not being able to choose just one favourite song @OverlyAnxious. I don't think I could choose! What songs are you currently listening to?

Ah so you're into country music @gtks? That's one thing I've never really got into, although I do love a few of Dolly Parton's songs. Any songs you can recommend to ease me into the genre?

Oh no @vikki66! The music must have been really bad. I dislike the very obvious knock-off pop songs some places play, I used to be a shop manager and I could play my own music, it was heaven; although I did let the rude version of Don't Marry Her by Beautiful South slip through once, oops!

I've got a lot of music in my CD collection. One thing I can't abide tho is overdone autotune. So much pop played on the radio makes it sound like they're singing wearing a clothespeg on their nose!
I love Queen, Meatloaf, INXS, MUSE, Metallica, Majestic, Sabaton, AC/DC (a far bit of metal) I used to be a massive fan of Jools Holland too, seen him live once. Nick Cave, also see him live. The Cat Empire (an Australian band) I've seen them play twice.
Then I've got a couple of Madonna CD's. Screaming J Hawkins gets a spot too
Plus a passion for Comedy Music
Ray Ellington (goon show), Carla Ulbrich, The Amateur Transplants, The Frantic, Tom Lehrer. And of course Weird Al!
Sometimes I listen to a bit of classical - possibly the weirdest one I picked up in the library once is Baltic Organ Music0 -
Just to add on to the comedy music list, how about a bit of Victoria Wood - Let's Do It

You can find country music 2024 in you tube. My bucket list is to go to a country music concert in Nashville, Tennessee or Calgary in Canada.

Enjoy. Tell me if you enjoy it.0 -
I'll check that out later @gtks and let you know, thanks!
I keep meaning to listen to Beyonce's C&W stuff @vikki66. I love how she embraces new genres. I used to love a bit of line dancing, so satisfying and not too difficult to pick up.
A new song I just discovered which is nice and relaxing is Paris - Indigo 😊

Irish music and seventies music are my favorites.
