hi everyone.

My son is 9 and currently home educated for nearly a year. I've bene waiting on SEN school placements. He was refused so far from 4 however we had a visit from a school that Is brilliant and can meet his needs and waiting to her back from the local authority, however I had a phone call to say that the LA won't allow him this placement unless I visit another school. The school they want me to visit, I've done research on and I don't feel like it would fit. Also this school is a nightmare to get to visit as I don't drive and would take 3 hours on public transport. And I have other children in schools it would just be impossible for me and my son wouldn't cope that 3 different buses and that time frame. The lady I spoke with us adamant I won't be able to get any place for My son unless I take him to visit this school. Where do I stand on this please as I'm so stressed now with so many turn downs and waiting so long.

Thank you.

How old is your son because he can get home to school transport if transport would be an issue.

Another thing I would do is write a list of the pros and cons of both schools so you have something to prove to the local authority that the school that you have chosen for him is the best for him not that you should have to prove anything.

    Questions I have?

    • How old is your son?
    • Dose your son have an EHCP plan?

    Hi @kayleighl06

That must be very distressing for you and your son, regarding being refused at 4 schools so far. If you are waiting for your son to be accepted into the SEN school that would support him, I can only presume that you do have an EHCP in place.

It is your right as a parents to expressly state the school that you would prefer him to attend. Especially if they are saying that they can support him.

This information on choosing a school with an EHC plan might help. It is from the IPSEA website. You can also contact them free of charge for legal advice. They have online bookings and also helplines several days a week.

Don't be put off by the LA. Some people working in those positions are fantastic and some are not, like in any job. If you are not happy with the information you are receiving, escalate it to someone higher, or contact IPSEA.

    I hope that this helps.
